If you already follow me, then you know I’m a massive dog lover! If you are like me, it’s almost certain that you would want your four-legged friend to be a part of your big day. After all, they’re an important member of your family and have likely been by your side through thick and thin.
But how do you include your dog in your wedding photos in a way that’s both meaningful and stylish?
As a wedding photographer, I’ve had the pleasure of capturing many beautiful moments with couples and their beloved dogs, so I’d love to share my insights on this topic.
First things first though, is it feasible to have your dog at your wedding?
While it’s a lovely idea in theory, it’s important to consider your dog’s temperament and comfort level in crowds and unfamiliar environments. If your pup is easily stressed out or reactive, it might not be the best idea to have them at the wedding. Additionally, some venues have restrictions on pets, so make sure to check with your wedding planner or venue beforehand.
Assuming your pup is up for the task, here are a few ways to include your dog in your wedding photos and make them part of your wedding day:
1. Engagement photos with your pup
If you’re already planning on having engagement photos taken, why not include your pup in them? This is a great way to get comfortable taking photos and capturing some fun, candid moments together. with your furry friend not to mention your wedding photographer!
2. Thinking about having your pup beside you as you take the aisle?
Rule number one for including your dog in your wedding photos is….don’t forget to practice! Make sure your dog is comfortable with their role and has had a chance to rehearse before the big day. With a little planning and preparation, having your pup beside you as you take the aisle can be a beautiful addition to your wedding ceremony.
This can be a heartwarming moment that adds a really special touch.
3. Dog of honour or ring bearer:
If your pup is well-behaved and comfortable around people, you could consider giving them a special role in the wedding ceremony. They could act as the dog of honour, accompanying the bride or groom, or serve as the ring bearer, carrying the rings down the aisle.
This is sure to bring a smile to your guest’s faces and will really feel like your beloved pet is part of your big day.
4. Wedding Photos with the bridal party
Incorporating your furry friend into your bridal party photos can be a great way to capture some truly unique and special memories of your big day. There are many reasons why having your dog join in on the photo session can be a positive and joyful experience.
Dogs are known for bringing happiness and joy to people’s lives, so having them as part of your bridal party photos can add an element of fun and lightheartedness. Their playful and energetic nature can help to break the ice and create a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, which will translate into beautiful, natural-looking photos.
5. Candid moments throughout the day
Including your furry friend in candid moments throughout your wedding day can add a sentimental and heartwarming touch to your photos. These candid shots can capture the natural, unplanned moments that often hold the most emotion and meaning.
Getting ready in the morning is a prime opportunity for some adorable candid shots with your dog. They might be sitting on your lap while you’re getting your hair done, or they might be helping you open a bottle of champagne with your bridesmaids. These moments are often filled with laughter and joy, and having your dog by your side can make them even more special.
During the ceremony and reception, there will be plenty of opportunities for candid photos with your pup. Maybe they’ll be sitting in the front row, watching as you exchange your vows, or maybe they’ll be sneaking some scraps of food off the table during the reception. These moments may seem small, but they can capture the personality and quirks of your dog in a way that posed photos simply can’t.
Incorporating your dog into candid moments throughout your wedding day can add a sentimental and personal touch to your photos. These moments will capture the unique bond between you and your furry friend and will be cherished for years to come.
